Summery Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The Summer Solstice is still a couple of weeks away, but it sure felt like summer yesterday. I took time in the morning to stitch Tiny Treasure #55. This one has stem stitch, stem fill, basketweave stitch, and straight stitch.

From there, I headed outside to check on the flowers. There were just four poppies this year. The poppies are biannuals, but I’ve been getting flowers from them every year. I’m not sure why this year was so skimpy. There was one other, in addition to the three in the image below. It got ...

A Good Day Ends Badly from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's the last day of May. We're onto June tomorrow. Are you ready? On June 4, 1944, my mom and dad were married. They were married 52 years when she passed away in 1997. Also, my grandfather's birthday was June 14th...Flag Day. (Also the same day as...you know...he who shall not be named.) My grandfather always told me they put the flags out on Flag Day for him. He was a WWI veteran, and so it made complete sense to me.

As you're reading along this morning, you can ...

Home Stretch from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a day for celebration. Today will be my last day of physical therapy. As I've grudgingly admitted, it has been very helpful. I was to return to the doctor tomorrow, but I canceled that appointment. My shoulder isn't completely pain-free, but it's improved enough that it isn't a constant annoyance. When I got into bed last night, I realized I hadn't thought about it all day. For now, I'll just keep doing the PT exercises at home. Surprisingly, it feels better on days when I do some exercise ...

Quilting Continues from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It looks like our weather might decide to warm up again. We're expecting warmer temperatures day by day, and we have a plan to plant our vegetable garden later this week. It's going to be a small garden this year. I'm sprouting zucchini and pickling cucumbers in the greenhouse at the moment. We'll also plant corn and green beans. You might remember our last garden when the critters bit the green beans off at ground level, killing every single plant. We have an idea about how to thwart those little gnawing bastards ...

Making Progress from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a good day yesterday. Everything on my list was completed. I was tired by the end of the day, and so I didn't get any time in the sewing room. Maybe today I'll be more motivated. After taking a walk on the treadmill yesterday, I took a little walk around outside. Each day I'm checking the water on the little seed pots. I'm happy to announce that there are sprouts in every pot except one.

So who's not doing their part? Well, it's the Sunrich Lemon sunflower...fourth ...

First is Last from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had four stops to make yesterday, but we were still home before lunch time. It left plenty of time in the day to finish off the other things I was hoping to do. Of course, I had to do my slow-stitching before anything else could happen. I’m working on the 2nd Santa now. I stitched his boots first, and now I’ve moved my hoop to encompass the rest of him.

Our first stop was to pick up some medicine at the pharmacy. After that, we went to the feed store to get more ...

Seeking a Rut from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been a crazy couple of weeks. We have three birthdays in a single week, followed by Mother's Day. With PT in the mix, it has me feeling as if I've been on the run. (No wonder I got a speeding ticket.) Mainly, I'm just doing things not a part of my usual routine. Next week, Mike will have a cataract surgery on Wednesday, and so I have just a few days to enjoy a relatively normal schedule.

It was a good day to spend some time in the greenhouse yesterday. The ...

Headrest Final Steps from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're back to sunshine this morning. We're expecting temps in the 70's today, and even a day in the 80's by this weekend. It's going to be good weather for making quilt sandwiches. That won't start until tomorrow. I've been anticipating it long enough that I'm ready to get started. As I've mentioned, my goal is to do four per day until they're finished. If there's time for other sewing, I'll work on finishing off the small quilts I made while we were traveling ...

Two Marvelous Days from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been an action-packed couple of days. I have so much to tell you, so let's get started right away. I'll start with the sewing. After that, I'll tell you about my walk with Matthew along the Willamette River waterfront...that was yesterday. And then, I'll tell you about our dinner Thursday night. Okay? Okay. Here we go.

In the sewing room, I managed to find enough time to finish the top-stitching on the latest two blocks for the Northern Wilderness project. Here's Block #9, the Outhouse.

Gardening and Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was such a pretty day yesterday, and unexpectedly warm. My usual morning routine was still intact, though. I took the first stitches on the ninth block for the Snowmen and Reindeer. I stitched their faces first so that we could chat while I stitched the rest of their bodies. (Doesn’t everyone do that?)

When I finished with my stitching, I could see Mike outside doing something in the greenhouse. I’d asked him to help me fill these large pots with dirt so that I could repot the tomatoes. When I saw him there ...
