Portland Rose Garden and Japanese Garden from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Well, I said it would be a good day, and it was. It was one of those days when I could have taken thousands of pictures, but I restrained myself. I'll show you what I have. This part of Portland comprises several of its most beautiful and beloved public spaces. Clustered together, one can find the Hoyt Arboretum, Washington ParkPittock MansionOregon ZooInternational Rose Test Garden, and Portland Japanese Garden. Matthew and I were there to see the Japanese Garden. As it turns out, the place was way busier than expected on a ...

Home Stretch from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was kind of a slow day yesterday. There were a few things on my to-do list, but not a lot of sewing. I'd been out to water the flowers and harvest more vegetables. When I came back inside the house, I looked out to see a covey of about 20 quail run across the field. They ran past the bird feeders and to the far side of the garden. I have an idea they're attracted to the seeds falling from the sunflowers. This isn't a very good picture, and I missed capturing ...

No Sewing Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was an unplanned day of no sewing. There was time for sewing, but I think I just needed a day off from it. Every time I thought about walking to the machine, I didn’t. I'll get back to it today. The only sewing I did yesterday was to make a little more progress on the cat for the Pieces of the Heart project.

We had grocery shopping to do. We also stopped off at the local feed store where they had whiskey barrel planters on sale. When we first moved to the Three ...

Lots of Lemur Time from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Well...the best laid plans, you know. When we decided to take our boat out, it was a beautiful day with sunshine and blue sky. Yesterday...not so much. It was terribly smoky in our world. I read in our local newspaper that Portland was in the world's top 10 for worst air quality. It's a dubious distinction to be sure. Here's a picture that accompanied the article. Yikes.

And we could see smoke in the air where we were. So, we decided to stay in with the A/C turned on for ...

Bitter Harvest from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Oh my...what a dire title to this post. Not to worry, but it's okay if you want to grrrrrrrrrrrrrr a little bit. Before we get to the grrrrrrrring part, though, let's take a look at the slow-stitching. Yesterday morning had me finishing the reindeer on the left side.

Now I've moved my hoop to the right, and this is all that's left. I expect to finish it this morning.

Okay...now for the part that might make you want to grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Please come with me to the garden. At first glance ...

Slow Boat Farm from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! I’m back a day early. If you were hoping to have another day of peace and quiet without my blabbing on and on and on about nothing at all, then I’m sorry. But you know how it is…I get word overload, and then things just don’t go well at all. And don’t even get me started on all the pictures I have to show you. After giving it some thought, I decided to tell you about the trip in three installments. There’ll be this post. Then, I’ll write a ...

Some Firsts from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day from start to finish yesterday. It got so late in the day, I barely did anything in the sewing room. Oh well. Plenty of other things were accomplished. There’s still a lot to do today, but it’ll be less hectic than yesterday.

Before we needed to take off for the grocery store, I was able to stitch Tiny Treasure #66. This one has stem stitch, straight stitch, and satin stitch.

When that was finished, I checked in on the green beans. They’re doing a pretty good job of ...

Busy Week Ahead from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. My best laid plans for the week turned into better plans when Erik scored a campsite for our two camper rigs for later in the week. We already had a plan to visit the farmer's market yesterday morning, and so what started as a routine schedule for the week just got a whole lot busier.

Before heading out for the farmer's market, I was able to stitch up the day's Tiny Treasure. This is Tiny Treasure #64. It has stem stitch, lazy daisy, running stitch, and French knot.

At the farmer's market ...

Heading Northward from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. My day got all turned around by the weather yesterday. Thunder and lightning and rain in the morning put all of my gardening plans on hold. This morning I'm seeing my PCP for my annual physical, and so the garden is going to have to spend another day without me.

My first stop on yesterday's agenda was to stitch up Tiny Treasure #62. This one has satin stitch, French knots, stem stitch, and fly stitch. This morning’s Tiny Treasure will probably have to wait until I’m home later today. (It’s a ...

More Blooming Things from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day here, as usual. Not everything got finished, but most everything did. My first trip outside was to take a look at the garden to see if I could put off the hoeing for another day. It looked pretty good to me, and so I'd planned to do that first thing this morning. Then, I awakened to the sound of thunder and flashes of lightning. It rained for a bit, and then the sky turned this weird shade of pinkish red.

It’s hard to know how much rain fell, and ...
