Every Little Thing in the Desert from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was another quiet day here. My day started as it usually does...with slow-stitching. I took the first stitches on Block 7 for the Snowmen & Reindeer project.

Later, we were incensed to discover that our new neighbors include four cats. And that's not all. They have a woofie too! Well. There goes the neighborhood. To quote The Big Lebowski, "This aggression will not stand, Man."

It's a good thing we're leaving tomorrow. I'm not sure we can take the outrage. Smitty is downright apoplectic, as you can plainly see.

More Yard Art from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was another lazy day here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. I spent some more time on my embroidery, filling in most of my hoop.

There's just a little left to do at the bottom, but I'll start here with the bird house this morning.

We got out for a walk. On this morning, we walked in one of the neighborhoods to the south of us. I was instantly taken with this tall palm. I love the pattern of their trunks.

This prickly pear cactus almost looks fake, but it is real.

Dublin Gulch from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. For as many times as we've been to Death Valley, I didn't think there were any more surprises there for us. Yesterday, we visited Dublin Gulch, which isn't technically inside Death Valley. Instead, it's in the tiny town of Shoshone, California just to the south of the park. What an interesting place! As usual, I took too many pictures. I'll tell you what I know about it, but if you're interested, you can read more about it and see more pictures right here.

Yard Art from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The weather is still chilly here in Pahrump, but things are looking up. Each day grows warmer in the coming week. We were treated to a pretty sunset yesterday evening. Of course, the sun sets in the west, but to the east, it lights up the hills behind us.

To the south, it turned those snow-covered peaks a pretty shade of coral.

The kitties are still optimistic they'll get the morning sunshine on their window hammocks one of these days. They spent their morning like this:

We'll try to face the right direction when ...

Stormy Weather from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a blustery and rainy day yesterday. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I was determined to break my lazy streak by getting out for a walk. Mike accompanied me along my way. The sun was shining as we walked away from the RV, but there were some clouds in the sky. We walked up and down, taking in whatever there was to see. Before we walked away from our site, I turned to capture a shot of this snow-covered peak. This is Charleston Peak...the highest peak in the Spring Mountain Range.

Lazy Bones from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. A serious case of the lazies has befallen us here in Nevada. Sadie is channeling the energy level in the RV right now.

I spent a lazy morning taking the first stitches on the fourth block for the Snowmen & Reindeer project.

Now, I've moved my hoop up and to the left, and I'll continue on there this morning.

We've been lazy since arriving in Pahrump. I've spent some time looking at hikes in the area. Almost all of them lead to a high peak, and so there is a lot of elevation ...

Las Vegas, Nevada from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Ordinarily, we avoid Las Vegas like the plague, but we wanted to see the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Garden. It's free to the public (except for parking, which was steep at $20 for the day). Erik and Mae are fans of botanical gardens, in general, and they've kind of hooked us on seeing gardens when we can. Erik tells me this one changes frequently. When he saw it last time, it was decorated to honor the Grateful Dead. (That must have been interesting.)

Okay, so we girded up our loins for a drive into Sin ...

Keyhole Canyon from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a good day yesterday...a short, but breathtaking hike, and then plenty of rest and relaxation later in the day. Before we left the RV, I noticed Smitty has a red scratch on his nose. He likes to bully Sadie sometimes, and sometimes she has to put him in his place.

Try that again, Big Boy.

Okay, so with peace established, we headed south from Boulder City. Looking at the image below, you might notice a bright white line running horizontally near the middle of the image.

Another Dam Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. For as many times as we've visited Hoover Dam and the Memorial Bridge, it still leaves us awestruck every dam time. I'm going to post pictures from yesterday's visit, but I would also encourage you to visit two posts from previous visits. Since I'd taken pictures of some of the things we saw on yesterday's visit and posted them previously, I skipped over those things during yesterday's visit. (I have a bad habit of taking way too many pictures.)

In this old post, we took the tour of the dam ...

Wetlands Trail from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I have a lot to tell you today, and lots of pictures to show. You might want to top-off whatever your drinking and get settled in a comfy chair. Before you do that, though, be sure to lace up your hiking boots. We're gonna go for a short, but challenging hike.

Heading out, we drove directly toward these mountains before turning north. I can never get over the beauty of the geological features of this area. It doesn't have the impact of a place like, say, Monument Valley, but the colors and shadows of ...
